Should You Eat At Set Times Of The Day?

When it comes to eating, there are many different perspectives on what is the best way to go. Some people swear by eating at specific times of the day, while others eat whenever they are hungry. So, should you eat at set times of day? Let's take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages.

Pros of eating at set times of the day:

  • Helps establish a routine: Eating at the same time every day can help establish a routine, which can be beneficial for overall health and wellbeing.

  • Promotes digestion: Eating at regular intervals can help promote healthy digestion by allowing the body to properly process food.

  • Can help with weight management: Eating at set times of the day can help regulate appetite and prevent overeating, which can lead to weight gain.

  • May improve sleep: Eating a meal too close to bedtime can disrupt sleep, so having set mealtimes can help ensure that you have enough time to properly digest your food before going to bed.

 

Cons of eating at set times of the day:

  • May not be flexible: Eating at set times of the day may not be practical for everyone, especially those with busy schedules or erratic work hours.

  • May lead to feelings of restriction: Some people may feel restricted by having to eat at set times, which could lead to binge eating or other disordered eating behaviours.

  • Doesn't account for hunger levels: Eating at set times of the day may not take into account individual hunger levels, which could lead to overeating or undereating.

  • May not be sustainable: For some people, eating at set times of the day may not be a sustainable long-term solution.
